The Difference Between Delta-8 THC and CBD

Difference Between CBD and Delta-8 THC

If you keep up with cannabis news, then Delta-8 THC may or may not be a familiar term to you. If you keep up with any news in the cannabis, medical, health, or wellness field, then you’ve most definitely heard of CBD at this point.

Those who learn about both compounds quickly discover that they have a lot in common; but that’s not to say they don’t have their differences. Depending on your needs, one compound may work better for you than the other. To help you figure out which one is the right fit, let’s go over the differences between Delta-8 THC and CBD!

What is Delta-8 THC?

As we covered in our last blog post, Delta-8 THC is a cannabinoid that shares most of the same benefits as Delta-9 THC, the THC compound we all know and love. Delta-8 will still get you high but, due to a slightly different chemical structure, the effect will be milder. Because it is usually hemp-derived, Delta-8 is legal throughout most of the U.S.

What is CBD?

CBD (cannabidiol) is another hemp-derived cannabinoid with similar health benefits to both THC compounds. The biggest difference between CBD and either THC is that is does not produce the euphoric high for which cannabis is known, as it reacts differently with your endocannabinoid system. CBD is also legal throughout most of the U.S.

How are Delta-8 THC and CBD Different?

Psychoactive Effect

The most significant difference between Delta-8 and CBD is that the former produces a mild euphoric high, while the latter produces no high at all. Along with that high, Delta-8 can also bring on unpleasant side effects similar to those of Delta-9, such as anxiety, paranoia, and food cravings.

Immediate vs. Long-Term Effects

If you’re looking for a product that will yield long-term benefits, then CBD is your best bet. CBD products take longer to work than Delta-8, but they are also longer-lasting. Delta-8 THC, on the other hand, produces an immediate response from the brain that wears off more quickly.

Drug Testing

Because it is so chemically similar to Delta-9 THC, you may fail a drug test if you’re using Delta-8. CBD, on the other hand, is available as an isolate, which will not show up on a drug test.
